News / Five unions apply for CAUT membership

The applications for CAUT membership of the Association of Part-Time Professors of the University of Ottawa, the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Faculty Association, the Association of McGill Professors of the Faculty of Arts, the Association of McGill Professors of Education, and the Association of McGill Academic Staff of the School of Continuing Studies will be presented to delegates at the CAUT Council meeting from May 1 to 3.

The three new McGill unions’ move to join CAUT comes as media reports say McGill University plans to lay off nearly 100 employees. The university announced a projected deficit of $194 million by 2028 if “corrective action” is not taken. The three unions joined the Fédération québécoise des professeures et professeurs d’université in February.
