News / Trouble at Laurentian

Bargaining for the main Laurentian University LUFA-APPUL unit has been paused pending a report by Ernst & Young on the University’s financial situation, a study commissioned by the employer after the start of negotiations. Negotiations were already delayed by a lack of information to substantiate administrators’ claims of financial crisis. The university has proposed several monetary concessions and massively cut funding to three federated campuses, threatening their unique academic programs.

There is also an ongoing dispute over the unauthorized and unilateral suspension of admissions to seventeen programs. CAUT is supporting the Association in seeking a judicial review, claiming that the suspension of admissions without the agreement of the Senate is a violation of the Laurentian University Act.
