Obituary / Doug Lorimer

Professor Doug Lorimer passed away on March 19.

Lorimer served on the Canadian Association of University Teachers’ Executive Committee and as Chair of the collective bargaining committees of CAUT and the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations.

In 1988, Lorimer, his wife and colleagues spearheaded certification of the Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association.

Lorimer was the chief negotiator for the first and several other WLUFA contracts and the first two contracts of Contract Academic Staff and Librarians.

Lorimer and his wife retired together from the Laurier History Department on July 1, 2010. They left an enduring legacy through the Lorimer Equal Chance Award and the Doug and Joyce Lorimer Award.

He was 82 years old.
