News / University of Regina Faculty Association fights for students’ rights

The University of Regina Faculty Association (URFA) has joined a coalition of unions, civil rights organizations, and 2SLGBTQ+ groups to stand up for the human rights of students in the province.

The coalition arose in response to the Saskatchewan government’s so-called Parents’ Bill of Rights, legislation requiring students under the age of 16 to have parental consent to use a different name and pronouns at school.

The government has also threatened to invoke the notwithstanding clause of the Constitution if the law is found to be in violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
